Polyacrylamide is, simply called PAM, a water- soluble high polymer and widely used in petroleum, paper-making, metallurgical, textile, chemical and environment protection fields. There are three categories of anionic(APAM), cationic (CPAM)and non-ionic(NPAM) type.

APAM,CPAM and NPAM appear as white particles/powder. All three can be used as flocculants. they can accelerate the sedimentation of particles in the suspension, and can be used for the flocculation and sedimentation of various industrial wastewaters, and for the precipitation and clarification of water.

Usage of PAM: First, we need to mix PAM with neutral impurity-free water to make a 0.1% concentration aqueous solution. Second, adjust the pH value of the liquid to be treated as needed, and mix the solution with the liquid to be treated. During the mixing process, we can speed up the growth and settling of flocs with proper agitation.

1. Flocculation Mechanism: Adsorbing suspension particles, polymer chains entangle and cross-link each other to form bridging, and make flocculation structure enlarge and thicken, and has the functions of surface adsorption and electric neutralization. 

2. Reinforcing Mechanism: PAM molecule chain and dispersed phase form bridging bond, ion bond and covalent bond to increase combination strength.

PAM has strong hygroscopicity, it can be used as sizing agent, finishing agent for fabric treatment.
Polyacrylamide can form a  protective layer which is soft, smooth and mildew-removing; when PAM applied in printing and dyeing auxiliaries sectors, it can be used as a stabilizer.

 

As flocculant for water treatment

PAM can accelerate the settling of particles in suspension, accelerate solution clarification, and facilitate filtration. It can be used for water quality treatment and purification in chemical industry wastewater, municipal sewage, tap water industry, coal washing, mineral processing, metallurgy, iron and steel industry, electronics industry and other industries.
